This toolkit is designed to help teachers, teams and school leaders plan, observe and strengthen play-based learning without turning play into either unstructured time or adult-controlled activity.

Its ideas are grounded in a learner-first play stance: beginning with a strong image of the learner as capable, curious, relational and able to construct meaning through action, imagination, language, materials and encounter.

The toolkit supports a shift from managing play to designing for play. Adult intention remains important, but the focus is on creating rich conditions, observing closely and making deliberate decisions about when to model, question, introduce possibilities, protect sustained play or step back so learner ownership remains central.
